FAQs

How do I apply for a position at RYAM? Expand

To Apply for open positions in the United States and Canada, please visit our careers page.

Do you recruit on campus for any of your positions? If so, how often? Expand

We recruit process engineers, project engineers and business majors from Georgia Tech, NC State and the University of Florida, Tuskegee, FAMU, Alabama A&M, North Carolina A&T, Ottawa University, ETS, Sherbrooke University among other schools. We typically look for chemical engineering, pulp and paper engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, Supply Chain, Finance and Sourcing degrees for these positions. We usually visit one to two times per year for these entry-level and summer intern roles.

As an intern, what type of experience will I get? Expand

Regardless of your role, you will get the opportunity for hands-on experience, working side by side with professionals in their fields. The ability to apply the knowledge you’ve learned in the classroom to our business is a key goal of ours as we design an assignment that will satisfy a business need. And, most importantly, the experience you gain working with us will provide a new perspective when you return to the classroom, further enhancing your academic experience.

As an Early Career Development new hire, what type of training will I get? Expand

All of our employees go through a new hire orientation, learning about their locations and our processes and beginning to gain some technical depth. Through a six-month onboarding process, our new hires participate in facility tours of RYAM businesses and attend “RYAM Immersion,” facilitated by our senior leadership team. On location, you are teamed up with a partner to guide you as you learn how things are done and continue your growth as an employee. Through a variety of assignments, you apply your education to perform improvement projects geared toward quality, cost, environmental performance and overall process optimization.

What comes next for Early Career Development new hires? Expand

In the first three to five years, you will experience various assignments designed to increase your depth of knowledge, including technical services, operations support, and exposure to sales, marketing and research, Finance, Supply Chain & Sourcing. Those interested in department and mill management roles are often provided leadership assignments and can expect to take on a shift supervisor role as part of their development.

I’m not an engineer, what kind of opportunities do you have for me? Expand

We have many other roles available in areas like accounting, IT, legal, human resources and more. Search our current openings to see what’s available.

Do you have a tuition assistance program? Expand

After one year of service, employees may apply for 75 percent reimbursement of tuition, books and fees toward the successful completion of job-related degree programs (including online programs). Reimbursement is limited to the current respective government limits annually for an undergraduate degree, and up to $10,000 annually for graduate programs.
